As you all know, our ancient knowledge systems were preserved orally at first and then on manuscripts, using a variety of materials such as birch bark, palm leaf and then paper. India has a treasure trove of manuscripts that record a whole range of our traditions, including religious scripture, commentaries, treatises on science, mathematics, grammar and also recipes.

At Somaiya Vidyavihar University, our efforts are dedicated to the appreciation, study and preservation of our past, even as we step into the new and modern. In pursuit of this, we are pleased to announce an online workshop on Manuscriptology from 24th to 27th June 2020. The workshop will be presented on Hangout Meet.

 Wednesday, 24 th June,2020: 4.00 PM to 5.30 PM Importance of manuscripts and manuscriptology

 Thursday, 25 th June,2020: 4.00 PM to 5.30 PM Contents of manuscripts

 Friday, 26 th June,2020: 4.00 PM to 5.30 PM Collection of manuscripts, cataloguing and conservation.

 Saturday, 27th June, 2020: 4 PM to 5.30 PM Editing and publishing.

These sessions will be led by Dr.Shilpa Suman, Assistant Professor, Department of Sanskrit and Lexicography, Deccan College Post Graduate Research Institute, Pune.

On Saturday 27th, we will have a special session at 6.00 pm on the digitising and preservation project that has been undertaken at our University.

 Saturday, 27th June,2020: 6.00 PM Ancient Texts 2.0 This session will be presented by Ms Aparna Ramachandran, Manager, Operations, Eka Archiving Services Pvt Ltd.
